Bosses

Seven bosses across three regions - two kinds, and the one that does not fight alone.

Two kinds of boss

Each of the three outdoor regions has a region boss and a hidden boss.

Region bosses respawn on a 30-minute timer. They are part of the furniture: if one is not up, wait, or go and do something else and come back. Each one has a hologram at its home showing its name and a countdown.

Hidden bosses are not on a timer at all. After each one's respawn window, the server rolls a chance once a minute and usually fails. You do not farm a hidden boss — you walk into one. Its hologram deliberately shows no countdown, because a clock would promise a spawn that is not coming.

The seven

Boss Region Kind
Sandworm Sunstorm Desert Region
Pharaoh Sunstorm Desert Hidden, with a Sphinx
Yeti Frostpeak Range Region
Bigfoot Frostpeak Range Hidden
Leviathan Mistvale Coast Region
Jörmungandr Mistvale Coast Hidden
Sphinx Sunstorm Desert Hidden, follows the Pharaoh

The Pharaoh brings the Sphinx. When a Pharaoh spawns, a Sphinx arrives with it. The Sphinx does not roll for itself — it is part of the Pharaoh encounter, not a separate one.

Difficulty scales with the region. A Sandworm is a mid-teens fight; Jörmungandr sits at the top of the range with more than two thousand health, tuned for a group rather than one player.

They are big, and they are actually that big. Bosses are custom models riding ordinary mobs, and the mob underneath is the hitbox — so a scaled-up boss is scaled-up everywhere, including what you can hit.

Fighting them

  • They hit hard. Damage scales with level, the same as everything else.
  • They are not a solo activity at the top end. A hidden boss with nobody to help is a death, and the death penalty takes 10% of your money each time.
  • They do not leave their region, so an over-levelled player who wanders in can finish one quickly.
  • Boss kills are counted on the town leaderboards. See Leaderboards and holograms.

Roaming creatures

Not every large model is a boss. Nine roaming creatures wander the regions — they are dangerous, they hit back, they are the reason a quiet walk can become a fight, but they do not count as boss kills and they do not drop like one.

If a creature you have never seen before is walking steadily towards you, that is a roamer.
