Coins, keys and crates
What coins are, where they come from, and the four crates they open.
Coins
Coins are the server's premium currency. They are not money — the money you spend in shops is a separate thing, see Money and the economy — and they are the only thing the store sells.
You get coins by:
- Buying them in the store. See Buying coins.
- Playing. Rewards, crates, quests and the bounty board all pay coins.
- Selling to other players on the auction house.
Your balance is on the sidebar, under the Coins line, right next to your money.
Keys
Keys are crate keys, and there are four:
| Key | Crate | Price in the coinshop |
|---|---|---|
| Starter Key | Starter | 100 coins |
| Adventurer Key | Adventurer | 200 coins |
| Royal Key | Royal | 300 coins |
| Elderian Key | Elderian | 500 coins |
All four are bought in the coinshop with coins. You can also earn keys from the weekly reward, and a crate can drop a key.
The four crates
Each crate's pool adds up to 100%, so the odds on every crate are knowable. The tiers run:
- Starter — common resources up to diamonds and enchanted books. The crate you open early and often.
- Adventurer — a step up: better materials, better enchants, a real chance at useful gear.
- Royal — netherite scrap and upgrade templates. The first crate where a pull can change your gear.
- Elderian — the prestige crate. Netherite ingots, title and cosmetic tokens, and a jackpot.
A crate reward never skips the level gate. Pull a diamond at Lv 5 and it is yours to keep — it simply does nothing for you until Lv 35. A lucky pull is a reason to keep playing, not a way to skip the game.
Opening crates
Physical crates sit in the town. Right-click with the matching key and the crate rolls its pool. /crate lists what you are holding and what each crate can give.
What coins are actually for
Coins buy, in the coinshop:
- Keys — the four above.
- Paid ranks — Noble, Royal, Mythic, Celestial and Sovereign, each for 30 days. See Ranks.
- Cosmetics — where a cosmetic is offered, it is a coin purchase.
Nothing in the coinshop is bought with money directly. If you want something from it, the only route is coins.
