Getting started
Your first hour on Elderian - what to do first, and the three ways new players lose their stuff.
Joining
Elderian runs Minecraft 1.21.11, Java or Bedrock. Bedrock players join on the same address through Geyser — the shop works there too, so nothing is closed to you.
Connect and you land in the town, a protected hub. From the town you travel out to survival. You respawn in town when you die, which is deliberate: it means a death deep in a region is an inconvenience rather than a hike.
What is actually different here
| Vanilla | Elderian |
|---|---|
| Mobs are a fixed difficulty | Mobs level by region. The further out you go, the harder they hit |
| Your XP level is your level | Your class level is your level; vanilla XP is only for enchanting |
| You can build anywhere | Building is off in both survival worlds and in town |
| You keep your stuff | Dying costs you 10% of your money |
| The world is one place | Survival is split into regions with level bands |
Your first hour, in order
- Pick a class.
/classopens the picker. Five to choose from — you can hold more than one, but the first one is what you will level for a while. - Take a kit.
/kithas a starter kit with basic tools, food, and the land-claim book. It costs nothing. - Learn the map. The starting region is Aurel Coast (Lv 1–5). Stay in it until things stop being scary.
- Find a waypoint NPC. Talking to one unlocks fast travel if your class level reaches that region's band. Aurel Coast's NPC will take you immediately.
- Kill things. Your class levels by doing class things — a Miner levels by mining, a Knight by fighting. Mobs also carry coins, which is the other thing you need.
The three ways new players lose their stuff
1. Walking into a region above their level. The regions are bands, and a Lv 5 player in a Lv 30 zone dies to the first mob that notices them. Region entry announces itself in chat — the announcement is the warning.
2. Dying with money in their pocket. Every death takes 10% of your balance, whatever killed you. In the PvP arena it goes to whoever killed you instead of vanishing. There is nowhere to bank it, so the real answer is: spend it, or accept that a death costs you a tenth of what you were carrying.
3. Selling to the wrong side of the shop. NPC buy prices are always higher than NPC sell prices, and farmables sell for very little. The shop is a convenience, not an income. Selling to other players is where the money is.
